Hiya everyone,

Ok, I wantto know how to texture in 3ds max and adobe illustrator, And I am still very much clueless to do this.

Every tutorial I've visited gives knowledge to texture your model, but they don't normally start at the beginning. I need a tut that's really well writin , and with a lot of photo's

Thanks Derek.

Why are you using Illustrator? o_OSo I can use live trace, and make some displacement maps for my gun model.

Anyways I think I've found a way to texture and I need to see if it's right?

Ok what I do

1.Open max
2.Create a basic object
3.select the faces I want the displacement map or normal texture map will go on
4.Go into sub obj mode faces, scroll down till you find the detach button, detach to eliment.
5.put your matarial to the detached faces, render to see if you like it.

That's what I've figure out what to do for an hour and a half.

I was where you are now a year ago or so when I stated out in 3ds max... I don't use it anymore though as I use houdini now but anyways one of the best help things is actually the help tutorials within 3ds max and this is the best 3ds max specific forum that I've seen: http://www.maxforums.org but try to be specific in questions you as so they at least know you made an attempt at it before asking.. sorry I can't be of more help as the specifics of 3ds max have escaped me since I've stopped using it... but one thing you didn't mention was UV mapping which you need to do to change where the textures show up on the object if you want to use more than one texture on an object.
