I am not very sure in where should I post this thread....

anyway, just a simple question.

I started to use Maya in MAC, but I cannot handle it very well as I cannot perform the job which buildin in a 3 button mouse in PC.

for example, in hypershade, I just want to drag a "checker" into a "Lambert" color, but I can only perform the LMB funstion and move the checker, and cannot perform any connection.

can somebosy give me some relevant web tutorial link, or give me some insight here?

many thanks!

for gods sake, get a new mouse... using one button Apple mouse is an eye candy, but for Maya, its just plain stupid. Sorry.:surprised

dito on that! what the hell was Apple thinking?

I use a Mac with one of those multi-button Microsoft Intellipoint mice and it rocks!

To be honest, I think Apple still drags this one button mouse because of the branding effect. Nothing more than marketing, I say.

Yeah, ok, some people realy dont need more than one buttion and they are terrified of gandgets with a lot of buttons, so, keep this mouse for them then. But for us, 'different' users, give us a 3-5 button mouse already! I hate spending money for useless stuff like this one b mouse.:thumbsdow

OS X is fully 3 button mouse ready.
Ust plug the damn thing into the usb port and you are ready to rock. No drivers necessary.

Actually one button is the most logical.

Unfortunately Alias did not make there GUI that genius so the best thing you could do is to buy a logitech MX 500. I got one my self with my mac, it's amazing!

the problem is that you will hardly find a 3-button USB mouse without a wheel.
i searched for long with no avail. and: you can't use the drivers or software add-ons for the mouse, at least not with my microsoft mouse. reconfiguration of the mouse buttons does'nt work with maya and a so-called "mouse zoom" for increased speed neither. if someone comes across a 3 (or more) button USB mouse, please let me know, thanks!

Have you looked at Logitech?? They make excellent mice and keyboards.....my Logitech Cordless Duo Pro has 4 buttons on it....2 regular buttons and a scroll wheel/button, as well as a thumb button. All programmable.

There was a study a few years ago performed by microsoft that found that less than 20% of their users even use a second button in their computing experience. I'm sure that number has changed but MOST people have no NEED for more than one button.

Please keep in mind that MOST people aren't using these forums. So what if apple keeps shipping a 1 button mouse. Honestly, if they ship a multi-button mouse it better be pretty damned good, cause I love my $30 Logitech 3 button.

So, go spend $30.

Get yourself a wacom. You can use the pen as a 3 button mouse. 4D mouse is also handy, though you might find for most tasks you end up wanting to use the pen instead.

Anyone with any advice re "get yourself a wacom". I use a tablet for 2d art and artisan stuff, but navigation in the interface is a drag. Any workflows from folk who have fully integrated it?

The secret to using a Wacom with Maya, as far as I can tell, is to use the Hotbox and Marking Menus heavily.

Actually I would not recomend any of the logitechs for maya, the middle wheel pressure is far too heavy, it's a chore to use. Ive tried many generations of logitech with maya through to the mx300, they are all the same in this regard which is a shame as otherwise they are great mice.

The best middle wheel pressure mouse (very similar to a 3 button mouse) are the MS opticals.
