View Full Version : Hotkey Assignment How-to
Justin Owens 05-14-2002, 08:37 PM Hola all,
I am a veteren LW user who is translating into a Maya shop. I was wondering about hotkey assignment. Basically, how do you do it? I would like to assign certain viewports to certain keys, i.e. front to keypad 5. As well as other such modes of workflow facilitation. I'm delving into my manuals now, but I thought I might introduce myself to this forum and ask at the same time.
Thanks!

I'm kind of picky about what I choose to set up a hotkey for since the more you have, the longer it takes you to remember which does what, so it slows you down rather than speeding you up. I mostly just use them for custom marking menus. To switch viewports, i just tap the spacebar twice in one of the quadrants, to first get out of the current viewport and go to the quad view, and then maximize into the view I want. Quick enough for me.

just go windows-settings/prefs-hotkeys
to get the ortho view to a keypad you need to assign the hotkey to a script that does the job.
melcommand : switchModelView top;
but i guess you can't put it exactly on the numpad 5. there is no difference between the numpad 5 and normal 5. and the 5 is assigned to shaded mode.
maybe you put it on ctrl+5 ???

Um... that wasn't what you were asking, sorry! :wip:
Go to the Windows - Settings/Preferences - Hotkeys menu. It's pretty easy to figure out from there.

Thanks for your input. I'm in a quandry over whether to modify my Maya workflow to match my LTw workflow. You're right about the spacebar/mouse/spacebar, FB. It's just that I keep hitting the flippin' keys on the keypad because LTw does see them as different and that's how you switch between viewports.
Given time, I'll probably just learn to work with both. Kind of like the option key/windows key fight I mentally wage every time I switch OSes.
BTW, I was logged in as a co-worker earlier, that's why I'm replying as miguel446.
I did find the hotkey preferences you mentioned. The idea of a striking menu is intriquing and powerful. I love it.
