"James Cameron takes to water again
James Cameron is to direct a movie based on the real-life love story of freedivers Francisco Ferreras and his wife, Audrey Mestre.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Mestre learnt the sport of freediving from her husband and died last year attempting to break her world record of diving 557.7 feet on a single breath of air."

Man I've done a great deal of scuba diving, but I have to say 557.7 feet on a single breath of air, god damn that's crazy.
That's almost 200 meters that's insane the body goes through enough changes at 40 meters let alone at 200.The fact that the person would only be down there for 3 minutes would make little difference at that depth.I read last year that some woman got eaten by a great white shark while hanging on one of those deep dive cables, what luck!I mean you would think you had enough to deal with ,with only one breath of air let alone getting eaten by a great white.I know this may seem cruel but this is giving me a mad idea for an animation with a bit of dark humour.
A deep diver on the end of a line eaten by a shark makes me think of all those old worm on the end of the hook cartoons.

Sounds to much like the 1988 movie 'The Big Blue' which I trule love. I hope it comes off half as good!

Sports Illustrated had a huge article on the death dive, which I skimmed through... It's pretty sad, but I don't consider it worthy of a movie, especially so soon after the real event! That's just creepy, imho.

Cameron barely scraped by handling romance in Titanic, but he still had a boat-load of FX and history to allow people to forgive some of that dialogue...

But this is just two people in love holding their breath in the deep... And, knowing Cameron, he'll make his actors actually do it and probably almost kill one of them in the process... And for what?

Someone with a tenth of Cameron's eventual budget and a lot more heart could whip this into a feature... Maybe someone with a documentary background to give it some "immediacy." Cameron should get out of the ocean for at least a few years...

I read somewhere just the other day (in a Spykids article) that James Cameron's next movie is going to be 3D. I wonder if this is that movie? Personally, after seeing Spykids 3D, I think it'll be a good long while before I see another 3D movie. Wasn't nearly as cool as I hoped (and the bad story didn't help either).

Anyhow, I'm just happy Cameron's getting back to making movies again. I think he's had a long enough break.

PS-Now that I think about it, maybe the article I read was refering to that Titanic Imax documentary. Wasn't that 3-D?

You know the problem they had with the spykids movie was the fact that it was the old fashion 3d, I mean, anything that still uses the red blue seperation is retarded. I've seen an IMAX 3d film that was amazing full colour, useing clear lense glasses.

They should try that more often ;) more people will enjoy it.,

I heared rumors (totally unconfirmed) that when James Cameron saw Terminator 3, he said it was a real good movie. The reporter said that it was only because it was a terminator movie. James reply that no, he would tell if he did not like it. Just like he did for Aliens 3. This is the juicy part:

James: "We might correct that" (talking about the alien movie series).

Maybe a new alien? But this is almost too good to be true. Maybe only as a productor. Who knows? Time will tell (and Cameron sure likes to take his time).

while i can understand that people get tired or bored with what they do, i really wish that, for the most part, they would stick with what they do the best. i want to see JIM CARREY doing comedy, JAMES CAMERON doing sci-fi, CLIVE BARKER doing horror...

If you are refering to Alien 5, plans are being made. There are enough facts to confirm this. Cameron will be involved, but not as a director.

Alien Vs Predator will be released first, after that, there might be a good chance to see Alien 5, I sure hope so :)
