View Full Version : Maya Tutorial books
snickrep 08-07-2003, 10:41 PM I know there are maya tutorials on the web for free, but I would rather have a book to work with. I am using Maya Personal Learning Edition 4.5. I was wondering if there are good Maya PLE books with tutorials and that are for users new to 3D. I am looking for a book with tutorials on mainly how to build low-poly humans, game models, etc. Is "The Art of Maya" any good?

Not for your purposes.
Learning Maya|Foundation is a general intro to Maya and would help you get more comfortable with the workflow. The same goes for Instant Maya.
I do not know about a specific book that would exactly match your needs (Maya modeling for games/real-time?) but, as you already noticed, there are lots of help on the forums and online tutorials.

Out of the 5 maya specific books i have bought i thought think that the best one overall was the 'maya character animation' book it has some good concepts to get you started with all the different modelling approaches you know poly, sub division and nurbs modelling in maya . Not only that but also some nice tuts on rigging and even rendering and uv mapping .. essential in mho.
