View Full Version : poly head trouble- help would be great
The front view and side view looks alright but when you rotate the head in 3D it just loses any good shape and form. I'm not sure how I can fix it either. any help would be great since I’m making this for a class and I really want to this model to look awesome.
here is the model if anyone is interested in DL and having a good chuckle or helping me out.

I have this problem often. You need to pinpoint every single thing that is wrong with it one by one by rotating it in different angles, and fix them. Looking at yourself in a mirror for reference is very helpful. Like for example, from your perspective viewport from that angle your lips seem to be pushed out a bit too much, you could start by that, and move on to another thing until your head looks ok from every side. Yes it's long, yes it's annoying, but it's the only way to get it done correctly ;)

another thing that I find useful Rezz is after I've pretty much got my form from my reference planes I will work almost exclusively in a perspective or User view only switching back to the axis views occasionally to check myself. When you think about it how often in life do you see something perfectly straight on or a perfect profile without going out of your way to set it up .

Its the shape of the head from the top that is screwing you up. If you can find an anatomy book look at some of the skull references. The front of the head is smaller than near the rear. Think of a very rounded tear.

it could be the smoothing too, did you try some renders?
Maybe more definition in the cheek areas? Are you modeling where the hair would be? Looks like the head is too large.

I think the cheeks need some definition, That is the most important part that is making it look weird in perspective. Also the back of the head is not the right shape. Viewed from the top the head is too angular. Try rounding it out. I've photoshopped your picture to show the parts that need work
Always work in perspetive view. This way you'll know best what you're creating. Use the side views for finetuning verts.
