View Full Version : C4D to Modo
ediris 09-03-2009, 04:38 PM Hi guys i was wondering if there is anything like modomotion for C4D. I know there are some lucky Maya users able to export through modomotion to render in Modo, well i will like to render in Modo as well since i have no Maya.
Thanks,Edgard.

Hi I too like the render engine in Modo 401
I just use the rip-tide plugin for object exports
and the Free MDD plugin to export PLA animated meshes
to render the animation in Modo.
Cheers

Hi Edgard,
just found those two links, maybe it works for you.

Hi Seraca do you have to bake the animation first, lets say i have a dormer animation in C4D simply a bend form one point to the other. Than i am stuck i am baking the object animation but it bakes the bend animation, i wish someone could explain the workflow of how to transfer data from C4d to Modo so i would not have to upgrade, besides Modo is far superior render than C$D. I also am willing to get Placer Deposit the thing with it is that you have to export the animation of the object to be instance, that really sucks.
Edgard
EDIT: Riptide doesnt work with C4Dv11, how about that eh...

Hi yes
you have to Bake the animation to a PLA animation
save yourC4D project with textures
then use this free MDD I/O exporter
http://www.rabbitroo.com/C4D/MDDIO_040b.zip
next Export the MDD Data
I use Riptide ( works With R11)
to export the mesh as an object file.
load the mesh into Modo401
mode will likely ask for at least one of the textures
so you browse to the textures folder of you rsave C4D project and modo will find the rest and import the mesh
right click on the mesh in Modo an select "Add MDD data"
and choose the MDD data file you exported from C4D with this Free plugin
and your mesh in modo401 now Assumes the *PLA you created in C4D
(*PLA = Point Level Animation )
Hope this helps
Cheers

Yep it did work but when i couldnot add replicators, any suggections. Thanks for the tecnique is more simple than i thought but in C4D v11 the free riptide plug in is not being recognized.I tried lwo and 3ds. Will you know what other way to export animation form C4D to modo works at these moment, specially for rigged characters?. I was successfully exporting C4D models to be render in EIAS by FBX. I might try these one as well.

Hi
Im not sure of the Issue you are are having with riptide
I have the latest build of R11(not 11.5!!)
it exports my C4D Meshes with all the Mat zone assignments intact
which is what you need for easy import in to Modo with textures retained.
An animated rigged Character will have to be baked to PLA and have its rig deleted
and then have it deformation data(MDD) EXPORTED via the free plugin I linked you to
Modo Does not support FBX or any bone weighted meshes and its beta Collada importer is Not publicly released AFAIK.
I have not yet tried the replicator function on a MDD animated object but I will check on it
Cheers

It does work Seraca, Riptide only works if you start in 32 bit mode in v11. MDD plug in works fine. Replicator works as well with animated shapes. :)
The only thing you cant do is modify their timing, apply dynamics, apply randomness, could be good for the next release
Have a good night
