I have a number of motion capture files in Vicon's C3D format.
Unfortunately I need them in the Biovision BVH format to be applied to a standard 3DS Max character studio biped. I have "motion
builder" but I cant figure out how to convert from one to the other. I
understand that C3D is point based and that BVH requires a skeleton to
be defined, but how do I do the conversion?

Thanks

don't go to BVH to import in.

Export the BIPed from Max, Target your c3d data over to the Biped and then use the FBX file to import the motion back in to max. The BVH files are very limiting and add one more retargeting process in to the mix, copy of a copy.

There are tutorials in the help files for motionbuilder on how to setup the actor and setting up the characters as well as many posts on autodesk.area.com and here in the cgtalk mobu forum if you search.

If you have never done this before you have a bit of a learning curve to overcome. Watch the new motionbuilder masterclass on the area , its free also check out http://www.mocapclub.com/ for more info.
