i started with this model for a challenge for 3dhype www.3dhype.com


a challenge to make a goblin..

now i have the main body finished.. he will get some close, and some other stuff..

but for now this is it , the seam at the neck is caus it a other texture, was fooling around a little.

i think i will keep the texture simple ,caus i dont know what to do with his skin.. he has a sort of simple comic feel to him.


* So any suggestions would be welcome about the figure, texture, close, weapons.. etc *

hhm..its had getting commend these days, must be the weather.. freakin 70 views.. and no one has anything to say for it..:surprised :hmm:

Wow thats some solid modeling there. Good texturing, good modeling. Let me find some stuff to critique. The hands may be a little big for some peoples taste, but i personally like them that size. Maybe make the chin sharper or shorter. Also right now the goblin looks kind of sad, not devious. Solid modeling man.

ehh i went to 3dhype and its in like... gibberish.. or some language other than english. Is it always like that or is there a way to get an english translation?

srry,, i cant really.. do anything about the modelling now.. its all uv'd allready.


but if you have some suggestions about the close.. just let me hear it..


i was planning to do some skirt thing ;)

but ill have t ad some dynamics.. later to animate.. never animated never done anything in that section ,so if you have any suggestions about how and so forth.. good tutorials etc.. just let me know!!!

THE STORY!!!


Droebel : born in the woods of europe around 800.

no one knows his exact date.. they dont do on birtydays anyway.

he also really didnt have the time to party.. But goblins are famous for there wild behavior when they are havign a good time..

he also was very active as a child.. he loved the woods and playing like some tarzan figure..

so one day when he was sitting in his favourit swinging tree next to there little house

cave trolls came smashing up there village, and taking every goblin with them, they would have to work for the trolls in the caves as slaves.

gathering precious stones and golden dust.
Droebel escaped from the claws of the trolls by hiding higher up in the tree.

after shivering and crying for hours.. he desided to go and save his parents and the other goblins of the village.

he made a bow and arrow, and got to the cave..

where after a heavy battle of more running than firing arrows
he was captured.. and was doomed to work in the mines..

for several years he has been there,, no one knows exactly how long..day doesnt exist..darkness is all they have..

but after years of working there..and seeing friends die.. he desides to give his plan a try.. and he gets himself free..


now he is drowned in sorrow.. because he doesnt know what to do.. he is free, and has to save his people.. but he doesnt know how.. the first time didnt work.. so why would it work this time..

he desides to seek help..

hhm,, i have a little problem.. i now have a wrope.. and a want a knot on it.. so i got a torus knot object (3dmax)

so tadaa.. i have my knot.. but now if i want to ad my rope bump map on it.

it has to be uvw'd.. offcource.. but how do i do that than?

with the rope was easy... just get a tube..and bend it later..

but i cant get the knot in afterwords..

or should do i have to get 3 tubes.. uv them and bend them.. and set them up as a knot like shape..


that i can do.

but i want to know if i can map that stupid torus knot hehe

Just unwrap the sucker in UVWunwrap. It takes alot of time, but in the end, it's totally doable. There is another option for highly crazy shapes like that, though.

You can copy the mesh, and unwrap the mesh it'self. Then just apply a UVW map modifier and set it to planer mapping. Add a uvwunwrap modifier, and you will see the ability to save the UVW coordinates of the mesh. Just save them, and then apply them to the original mesh. Don't forget, that UVW coordinates are pretty much just 3D mesh in and of themselves.

That would allow your to unwrap the model using all the tools max has to offer. Sort of like "un-modeling".

Give it a try if UVWUnwrap feels to cumbersome for such a dimensionally complex form.
