View Full Version : Modeling: Cut, Copy, Paste and mirror

hi all:wavey:

this is my first post in this forum and i hope you all will help me with this great application "Maya Unlimited 4.5"

some body tell me how to cut, copy and paste faces, virtixes and edges or at least Polygons and Objects

also how can i mirror a shape? for ex:

i made the right half of a face and i want to make the left half.. i need to mirror the right half to have a complete face.

so my questions are:

1- how to cut, paste and copy Faces, Virtexes and Edges?
2- how to mirror shapes?

1. to cut faces there is a tool called split polygons under edit polys. To copy faces select the object (not the actual face) u want to copy and press ctrl+d. The object can be a plane with 1x1 subdivisions. U can also copy the whole object and then delete the unwanted poylgons.

2. To mirror an object make sure the seam of the object is snapped to 0 on the axis that u are going to mirror on. Then do to edit>duplicate>options. Go to the scale attribute and type -1 in the scale section under the the axis u want to mirror off of. Also if you are a little confused, select your half object u want to mirror and press R to scale it. Then scale the object in the direction u want to mirror in and look at the scale attribute. After a certain distance the Scale attribute goes to 0 then into the negative numbers. I hope it helps. If you need anymore help just post and Ill do what I can. :thumbsup:

u can use SmartVtx also , to copy mirror the Location information on the Vertices :

eech55, smartVtx allow u to copy/paste your Vertices location from polygon object to another ...

please follow the tutorial on that page and u'll understand what it does.

is it a new application like a plugin must be added to maya to do that? or it is already in maya?

i have maya 4.5 unlimited.. is it available there?
