View Full Version : HTML help won't launch

Hello all,

This is an uber-noob question, and I should know the answer, but I don't, so be gentle...

I'm trying to launch the help from within Maya (F1). It opens up my browser to this:

C:/Program

Which it can't find (I think it's trying to look on the web) because then it goes to a Netscape search result for "C:/Program".

My question is this: I have the HTML help loaded onto my machine. Is there any way from within Maya that I can redirect it so that it finds it locally instead of not being able to access it? I'd hate to have to reload the software just to correct this. I'm not sure why this started happening, either.

The location of the docs on my machine is: C:\Program Files\AliasWavefront\Maya4.5\docs\en_US\html

Isn't this the correct location? That's where they installed to.

Thanks!

I just re-installed maya the other day and had this happen. I had Mozilla as my default browser, and it seems it dosn't like it when you give it the C:\Program Files.... string without having file:// in front of it.

Once I changed my default browser back to IE, the maya docs opend like the usually do.

How do I change my default browser? From within Maya, or on the system itself?

Windows Control Panel>>Internet Options

In the Programs tab click the box to make IE check if its the default browser.

When you run IE again it will ask if you want to make it the default browser, so click yes.

I did some searching and found another fix.

If you edit the Maya.env file in your maya home dir and add this.

MAYA_HELP_URL="file:///C:\Program Files\AliasWavefront\Maya4.5\docs\en_US\html"

It will open the docs in mozilla. So now I can keep Mozilla as the defautl browser. :D
