Finally!

we did it, a version is uploaded to MSUC, just a few more fixes and we gonna release a public version too.

For those of you, who don't know the project. Airbørn is a mod for Unreal Tournament 3, which a few of my colleagues and me have been working on for quite some time now.

As opposed to most UT3 mods, this is a total conversion, which means that we almost killed everything that is unreal, and created a whole new look that hopefully doesn't look like unreal at all. Who we are? A group of professional game developers, who wanted to do something cool in our free time, because of that the development takes ages, but it's worth it.

Airbørn takes place in a fantastic world, eons after the earth has collapsed from over exploitation. Strangely, the world didn't end, life went on and somehow the people of this world managed to survive and live in a peacefull manner. Well if there wouldn't be kings that still exploit the ressources of the last islands and take even the last bits of usable sources for their good.

We place the player in that world, as Piño a small boy who wants to be a messenger just like his father was. In time he experiences a lot of adventures. Ok lets stop the text and let the images speak!

It looks like the top of the cream in the mod community:) My only concern is that when everything becomes SO saturated nothing pops. Using the greys of nature (an element that a lot of painters use to make it something more vivid) is a lot more preferable than trying to out-saturate everything for each element you add. Having the right Aerial perspective (atmosphere ambience color in distance) is so vital to make it resonate correctly with the player. Having it green when nothing actually make it green by color makes no sense.

Last note* adding the Ø in Airbørn makes it sound... stupid to any Scandinavian person :)

Good Luck!

"Last note* adding the Ø in Airbørn makes it sound... stupid to any Scandinavian person"

its a propeller, but from what i know in danish it doesn't change the meaning of it, children/kids is pretty much right, its meant to be born in the air, not like actual jetfighters, thats a part too but its definitely not a mistake to have the ø :)

However i now analized all images again and i can't understand your argumentation about the saturation, i hardly reach any saturation value over 50%, besides some things that are meant to pop out like the dandelions, we have aerial perspective so i can't understand this point either. what i understand is the greenish touch on far distances, thats a bug i didn't find the time to fix it, but overall the fog is more of a blue with almost no yellows in it.
We had that aerial perspective less saturated before but due to our experience with it and comments on other boards we decided to make it more saturated.

anyways

Holy crap this is fantastic looking.

The environment, while much different, really gives me the same kind of feeling that I got when I played Jak and Daxter for the first time. The environment is really clean and crisp, and seeing stuff in the distance (like the house - thing on the hill) really makes me want to explore every nook and cranny.

If only more "next-gen" games looked like this, instead of the desaturated, bland Gears of War stuff we get nowadays, I'd be broke. (no knock on what they do, but its great to see some bright colors popping out everywhere)

I want more pictures :)

Amazing art work! Reminds me of a 3Danimated movie more than a game! :applause:

The visuals are absolutely spectacular. I'm jealous of UT3's ability to render such vast environments for long distances compared to Source. I'm a little underwhelmed by the animations though, at least what I saw in the video. Excellent quality, just needs polish.

What was the production time up to when you created the video? I mean, how long had you spent working on the project at that point?

I've sometimes felt compelled to create an entirely unique texture set that I would use in place of all existing assets but the sheer volume of work involved is staggering. It's absolutely stunning what you've accomplished there. Good work!
