Childs book... Is this one of those childs books that tries to scare kids and scar them for life? That thing is one of the scarriest, be-bodied cube men i've ever seen!

hahaha.... Well, interesting point you have ther, but actually, thinking back I seem to most vivedly remember the childrens books that had a creepy feel to them. They just stuck better and facinated me more. There is only going to be face shots of this character so Im just presenting him to you in a nice and fashionable way....:p

any comments on the modelling/lighting?

Cool start, but where is the body? I think he's kinda hard to grip/understand "as is", and show him in different angles!
I agree that things get more interesting when they are not sweet and fuzzy-wuzzy (thatīs creapy!)
And if I where you I would crop the pic.
Keep up the good work!

Looks really nice:thumbsup: But I think the lighting is too strong, too artifical. The modelling is good too but I don't know what kind of material is it.

I love the character style. "Creepy" isn't necessarily the word I'd use. I think your style is a good way to progress right now, especially since "cute" is being parodied left and right now (see www.homestarrunner.com (http://www.happytreepeople.com) and www.happytreefriends.com (http://www.happytreefriends.com)).
Hard to comment on lighting seeing as how you may be using a different lighting scenario for your piece. Depending on the character, I would hope you'd use difference schemes (cold, warm, etc.) to light the scenes. This one seems to wash and freeze the character.
Are the ears finished? I think you could work on easing them into the head a little more. Hard to tell completely from this angle.
Nice work.

Nice work nice shading and lighting...modeling is good too....and as for creepy...if you look back at childrens tales...a lot of them are written about bad things...black plague, distruction, death...just with a twist to make them friendly enough for children...nice work...are you going to build a body for him or is this the final character? I'd like to see him with arms and legs:)

I think the coloration of the face is fantastic. I really like the shape of the nose. The ears do seem to be way more abstracted than the rest of the features though. Nice work.

Subsurface scatter-o-rama!
Might be nice if you give us some background to the story so we can get some more insight into the character and your intentions.

thanks for the comments guys. Appreciate it.
This model will only have head-shots in the book so there is no point in modelling a body, but I might do it later just for my own sake...
I havent had the time to work on him the last couple of days, but IĻll post some older, unfinished images that illustrate the mood and lighting of the character better. Take a look and tell me what you think:)
