View Full Version : Rope - need help!!
monarts 09-01-2009, 08:33 AM Hello,
I would like some one help me to get the 'rope' effect in Maya. Please let me know whether it can be achieved by some rigging techniques or or only by dynamics. This rope will be stuck by some objects and will accordingly. I need it desperately as soon as possible.
Thanks for your help,
Moncyarts

Not entirely sure what you mean by "Rope Effect" , what exactly does the rope need to do? , what have you tried so far that didn't work?
If you want a dynamic rope I suggest you check out

Create a login and go right to the bottom of the vids. There you will find a great dynamic TUT on ropes using nCloth by Kevin Mannens
If you need it to be rigged for more control , I'd suggest a spline IK

Depending on the effect, using Maya Hair to control a curve (which possibly controls spline IK) would also work a treat.

Great to see your responses, and actually what I need is, a boy is running and a rope is tied across the road (not very tight). This boy doesn't notice it and his legs stuck on the rope. Now I hope you can imagine what kind of movements happen for the rope. This is what I need.
Thanks for the links and tips you have provided. I hope I can find a solution with them.
