High everyone!

I have a question. I am someone wanting to seriously get into texturing to compliment my modeling. As I'm learning more and more, I just wanted to know if there was a way to make "glow" maps? Is there such a thing? If so, how would you go about making these?

Also, when you have to need to apply some type of texture (rubber bump, fishnet bump, etc), would you put those textures in the Color map and the Bump map, or just the Bump?

1) Yea, just create it like you would any other map. I would actually make it a black and white map, so you can adjust the glow more effectively in post. If you don't have any post-editing, then I would suggest it still be a black and white map, and in whatever program you use, do a color remap so in case you change your mind on the glow color or intensity you can do so without going back and forth from Photoshop/GIMP/etc.

2) Depends on your look. If you have a object with a mesh glove, you would probably put the mesh in the bump, and create a colored map to make it stand out from the object.

Thank you for that! I appreciate your insight and response!

Depending on the software you are using, you can use that same black and white map to create a mask and blend between two materials, one for a glowing material and one for a non glowing material.

I once used a set of grayscale photos of window curtains, to simulate the windows of far away buildings using that technique, it works pretty good.

"Also, when you have to need to apply some type of texture (rubber bump, fishnet bump, etc), would you put those textures in the Color map and the Bump map, or just the Bump?"

Depends a lot on the look you want to achieve, but almost always color is related to bump (take a look at a pair of blue jeans, some threads are white and some threads are blue, and between those threads there is a groove, the groove can be the bump map, and the blue and white threads the color map)
