View Full Version : Xpresso and Thinking Particles for dummies
mt_sabao 08-06-2003, 02:53 PM Hi there guys!
Just wondering if someone knows where and if i can find any manual/document explaining xpresso and thinking particles, explicitly what each of the nodes do or donīt do. Cause iīve been doing some tuts @ maxon but they all say do this and do that, but they donīt explain why. So its very easy to get lost...
Can anyone tell me why, or where i can find out why ;) ?
Thanks a lot, keep up the good work!

my tutorials on my website, while not necesarily "simple" do at least attempt to explain what each node is doing, have a look in the tips section

I just ordered C4D and will be looking for beginner tutorials, aside from the ones that'll come with the software. I'm comming from Rhino.
WHY is one of the best learning questions. Any monkey can go through a tutorial key stroke by key stroke and get results. I like to know WHY I am using this particular tool to do something instead of that one, when they both will result in the same end.
Yeah i agree with unclebob. i have worked through the tutorials but i still don't understand why TP works the way they do. the terminology just doesn't make sense to me. I wonder if there is anything out there that is more comprehensive in learning TP.

The problem with TP and XPresso is that you need to understand logic, you need to get accustomed to it. People with a programming or scripting background have usually a quicker understanding than people without that background.
It's really a matter of getting used to. Play around. Try different options in the tutorial. Take a look at the nodes. I remember the first encounter I had with Maya's node system and MEL. That was hard to swallow as well, but you need to give yourself some time.
I know this will not help you, but at least you know you will not be the only one struggling with this part of the application.
One of the places where you will find a couple of TP and XPResso examples is the German site www.c4d-treff.de. Another one would be, albeit not "simple, Srek's site: www.bonkers.de. And yet another one is http://129.125.101.174/dark%20project/index.asp
And don't forget: if you run into a specific problem, you can always ask :)
Cheers,
