Hi,
For my final project of my MSc i completed a project in collaboration with one other student. Over the course of three months including preproduction and a thesis.
We primarly used PRman Python api and Houdini.
The lighting, rendering and scene management was all done through the PRman python api and was arduous task at first but paid off latter in the production cycle. Shader were wrote as well with the renderman shading language.
Effects were done in Houdini making use of its powerfull procedual features, abilty to handle very complex particle simulations and its abilty to hard surface particles.
Compositing and editing was done in Shake.
We also worked on a networked linux environment which is great environment to work on for collabaritve projects.

I would be great full for some feedback and advice as i know there are some great RenderMan and Houdini users on the forums.
regards,
Joe
