This is an animation we did to a commercial for Pepsodent in May 2003, intended to air in Finland only. We had 3 weeks to produce a print ad and a short animation. All done in Maya, using Maya fur and Mental Ray, composited in After Effects.

The customer wanted a toothless middle age politician/teacher charicature guy (!?) who would be lecturing about absolutely nothing (mumbeling) and then get interupted by a sign that says something similar to "stop talk BS and start chewing" which evidently should be a finnish saying for telling someone to shut up. I don't know, I don't speak finnish. Anyway, then a bunch of chewing gums comes in and forms a perfect set of teeth letting us know that there's a new chewing gum available. Below you'll find the results.
A fun project to work with all in all.

hey nice work! I don't speak the language but I still giggled after seeing it. Really nice work on the animation, that expression right before the cut to the sign dropping is priceless. Oh great model too!

Hey Dude, this is GREAT!!! The expressions of the character rock!

I don't know if it's maybe the quicktime, but I had the feeling that maybe the lipsync could need 1 or 2 more frames offset from the sound, to get it more sync in some parts. Anyway, it must be a pain to count out the blabbering part, hehe

Is it swedish, what he's talking, or only blabbering? I don't understand any word and think swedish sounds different from what he is speaking :P

Really cool work!!

Thanks!
Tubby: All morph targets was done in sections and my job was to put them together as funny as possible. My favorite is also the last expression he has before the sign drops. The bureau wanted all movements exaggerated and when they saw my results they thought it was hilarious, but when the final customer saw it they thought it looked like he had way too much Koskenkorva Vodka, and for some reason they didn't want that ;) . This facial expresion is however one of the ones I kept. It's just in there for a few frames.

Here's a still sequence from the film showing some different expressions:

DerPapa: It's not swedish, it's finnish, and no he's just blabbering. About the sync issue I know about it. I think it's a compression thing. On the final master the sync is 100% however. We've been trying to fix it but we've really haven't had any time:)

impressive. too heavy on the motion blur i think.

Hm, might be true. I don't think we used it excessively however. His blabbering caused some keyframes to appear with just a frame inbetween, so the motion blur helped to smooth things out. Maybe we used the blur in post instead of using Maya's own. That usually makes things a little more smeared. I don't remember but I'll check on it.
