chips__ 08-06-2003, 01:30 PM hey
is it possible to attach one object to several renderlayers? and maybe even with different materials?

this doesn't make sense to me, but if you're looking for creating multiple versions of an object and rendering those on separate layers, why don't you simply duplicate the object in question, create separate layers for each and toggle the 'renderable' switch before output?!

well the thing is, i'm working on a project right now, and since i just came on as a freelancer and the deadline is friday, i don't have time to write melscripts to move data around scenes. the scene is a very complex character and a simple set and some background plates mapped on planes. i really want to render out passes of each light for each object, and ultimately an ambient occlusion pass too. and i want to do it from one file. right now, whenever an animator changes something, i need to reimport the character into four different scene files, and sometime manually replace some materials... and since its 7 different shots, this really takes up a loooong time...
thanks
