Welcome to the Non-Audion section of the Animation Mini-Challenge. The topic for this month is: Picking up a dollar bill (be creative)

Use your time wisely everyone. We have a whole month ahead of us, so start planning your setup. I hope to see something soon from everyone.

For anyone who doesn’t know of a site to host their WIPS I suggest trying Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/) or Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/). They are both very reliable video hosting websites and most people have access to them.

The Rules Are:

Make all the WIPS in Playblast form, then if you choose you can create your final piece in a more robust renderer (NOT necessary, you can still post the final with a playblast).
All animations should last at least 10 seconds long, that way there will be more clarity with what is going on.
All animations should last NO longer than 12 Seconds.
All participants must show there work-in-progress before posting the final.
DO NOT add any audio.
HAVE FUN!!! :buttrock:
If you would like to try your hand at the audio version of the challenge here is the link.

Hi, Here is my initial blocking pass.

http://www.vimeo.com/6547312

I went back and forth between a few diff concepts and ultimately I like him very torn/paranoid about picking up the dollar, then getting too paranoid and not picking it up at all. Hopefully i'll have time to finish it.

All the Best!

Hey guys,

I am back for Sep. Challenge
Didn't do last months had a lot going on and the same for this month but I am making time for it.

So here is what I have so far.
Some help would be great.
If you know where i can find some cartoon animation of
someone getting pulled sort of like I have that would be great.

I have only looked a little bit but haven't found anything yet.

I am talking about like when they get pulled by something or they fall
and only some of there body goes with them and then the rest.

I think you guys know what i mean . Like the looney tunes animation

Hey like the idea keep it up can't wait till you clean it up.

Taking Animation Mentor I see,
I like your idea as well not sure if Splinter will say something about not picking up the dollar bill.
But I like how you want to tell that he wasn't sure if he should pick it up or not.

Quick draft spent a good amount of time monkeying with Blender,
trying to make sure the rendering won't take forever when I am done,
but in turn I only spent a half hour blocking it in(I'm 17, not a student unfortunately).
Just a guy stealing the dollar/picking it up from a museum security place,
I'll add some more elements to set the mood and do some okay lighting.

I am posting my work in progress for the mini challenge. This is a playblast before I correct my timing issues and work on clean-up animating.

Here is my in work progress for the Dollar Bill Pick Up.... Im moving along trying to smooth up the animation. Im still in the early stages of smoothing all the animation together and getting the timing right. However, this is what i have so far.

Here's my first pass before I go back in and clean up all the animation. I tried my best animating the dog since it's my first time working with an animal.

Nice to see many entries for the pantomime challenge :)

MikeCR - Like your idea and the initial point of view of the camera. Maybe you need some antcipatione before the character takes the dollar bill, perhaps a hand opened slowly before the pick (sec. 00:02 to sec 00:003). When the thief takes the bill the reaction of the main character is a bit fast, maybe you can stop him looking his empty hand for some frames, and next, the reaction ( and animation "take" :)). Only a comment :)

EveryFrame - Nice idea, like a lot the indecision segment, "pick or not pick the bill" :D But when he dont pick the bill is not clear for why. Maybe he can shake his head on a "no" movement after he extends his hand to the dollar bill to clarify the concept. Only a comment :)

MrMike - Looking good. Maybe the character can show more surprise when he looks the dollar bill on the floor, a bit more thinking action. The final part is not too clear, looks like somebody out of the screen is "fishing" with the dollar bill :D (Think that is the intention)

jm82792 - Nice work so far. Think you need to work a bit on the key poses of yor animation, your character looks stiff, and maybe more "looking around" action. Only a comment :)

tadavis3 - Funny concept, like the idea :D Perhaps when the main charcter stands up, he can make that with more decision, with the legs a more separated to gain balance. The surprise reaction and the jump to back start before the squirrel pick the dollar bill. The fall looks a bit slow in timing. Only a comment :)

Good work everybody and looking forward for more updates. Cheers!!

When is the due date for this 12 second animation? I just heard about this today, the 25th and i want to try it out if there is still time.

Here is my last WIP. it could still do with some tweaking but ive made a right mess on my time line and im kinda running out of time. however i will tweak the dollar pickup section still, its gone weird, and the anticipation is a bit overanimated. so next post will be the final.

rklbennett - cool idea :D When the superhero lifts the car, his body stay on the same position, only extending the arms, with that you lose the feeling of weight and force on your character, you need to stand up the character, using the whole body to lift the car. Only a comment :)

jmmiller3 - nice concept, like a lot :D. Maybe when the man makes the head movement of "go for it" you need to exagerate and put a bit more enphasis on it, to read better. When the dog takes the bill, perhaps you need a bit anticipation and a pause when pick the bill before the turn. Only a comment :)

HB02 - You have to october 30 (midnight) to finish the animation. And you need to post here your work in progress :)

MikeCR - like the changes on the animation, looking good :) waiting for your final animation :D

Alright, thanks for the response. What does "playblast" mean when you are talking about posting the rendered W.I.P.s?

Talk about a busy month. I have been out on vacation for my birthday and went out of state for a couple of weeks, but I am back and can't wait to get down to business. So, I plan on going through the threads and giving my input where I can. I haven't had a chance to look at anything yet but I will try to check it all out between today and tomorrow.

Alright, thanks for the response. What does "playblast" mean when you are talking about posting the rendered W.I.P.s?

A playblast is a rendering option that is simple and fast. You use a playblast rendering when you want to see your animation in real time with out there being too many algorithoms to slow down the process, and you get a quick result.
