Hi,
Ive been using Maya for a while now, but switching over to Max. I'm familiar with lighting in Maya and would like someone who've used both softwares to give me suggestions.

1) What are the equivalent lights in 3DS Max?
Spotlight
Directional Light
Area Light
Point Light
Volume Light
Ambient Light

2) Do max lights have settings like "cone angle, penumbra angle, Falloff, Dropoff etc" that are available for maya lights?

3) Is there an 'Incandescence Map' channel where I can insert an image which gives off a slight glows when rendered?

4) How does one create volume lights (lights that give off a fog light effect) ?

5) Is it possible in Max, like we can in Maya, to select a light and 'look through selected' to adjust what the light is hitting on?

thanks

Lightsources
Spotlight - Spotlight
Directional Light - Direct Light
Area Light - not in the Standard Lights, but there are Area Photometric and MR Area Spot/Omni
Point Light - Omni
Volume Light - No; you can change the Shadow-Type for any Light to Area and use a Sphere or Box, but that only affects the shadows
Ambient Light - probably the Skylight is the best equivalent

Light Settings
Cone Angle, Penumbra Angle - Hotspot/Beam, Falloff/Field
Falloff, Dropoff - Attenuation, Decay (methinks)

Image
Projector-Map (maybe...)

Volume Lights
Atmospheres&Effects -> Volume Light

Light Viewport
Change your View to the Light (either by rightclicking one of the Viewport's lables and navigating the manu or pressing 'V' -> Lights -> Select the Light you want to look through)

You can 'Include/Exclude' certian objects from either Illumination, Shadow Casting or both.
