Hello, I've never done Mental Ray render passes, but I figured I should learn it at some point (probably should have learned it a very long time ago). I can't find a decent explanation anywhere on the web that says how to render and save different passes. For example, how would I render out the nonshaded diffuse, shading, and specular seperately and save them as 3 different .tif files?

If you don't need them now, wait until they work properly. Mental Ray render passes are one of those things that only half works right now (among other things in MR). This is one of the reasons I jumped ship and bought VRay for Maya.

If you really want to learn right now, there's a Digital Tutors Render Passes with Maya 2009 workflow video. 2010 fixed nothing so it's still up to date - yay for that.

Ah, how disappointing. I downloaded the trial version for V-Ray and from the get-go I was more pleased with it than Mental Ray. Makes me wonder what Autodesk has been up to with Maya since I haven't noticed any major upgrades in years.

Thank you for the reply, I've looked into Digital Tutors before, but didn't realize they had something on Render Passes with Mental Ray.
