Hi all,

I'm currently retraining with the aim to get into 2D/3D Game Art/Texturing in Maya and Photoshop.

I have found a number of online schools but apart from Gnomon & Escape I don't know anything about their reputations. I would like to ask for any advice or recommendations on online schools specialising in 2D/3D Game Art. I have also looked through this site for any info I can get but I hope a new thread might prompt a few more people to share some info... :-)

The schools I've found:

Escape
Sessions online school of game art
Gatlin international
Dart institute
Protrain
Gnomon
3D Training Institute

Thanks all for reading and I'd appreciate any help!

Martin

I have no idea about online classes, to be honest, but I'd highly recommend you take a painting class, traditional or digital. It'll definitely help with the texturing.

Traditional painting is the background I'm coming from, oil paintings of people & wildlife, my work is here www.mhc-art.com (http://www.mhc-art.com) I'm retraining now in CG...

Can anyone give me advice on the online schools?... I'm looking at the Sessions School of Game Art and Dartt Institute.. both look pretty good on paper but I'm wary of paying them 5 grand

Oh well, heh, in that case it looks like you've got a great foundation for this field. I'd recommend you try to find a course that teaches you Photoshop really well, and also some fundamentals of game texturing (UVs, normal mapping, etc).

I really can't comment on the schools you've mentioned, but hopefully someone else can chime in here.
