hi. i want to do a lighting affect like in the picture in Maya where you can actually see the light shining. How would i go about into doing this?

I plan to use maya software or mental ray as the renderer. Though I'm fairly new to MR.

you can get similar results using the light fog, but you would have to play around with it.

isn't that just some volume light? try searching around for volume light tutorials for maya
