Her fingers kinda look like tubes, but otherwise it's looking pretty good.

What sort of poly limit are you aiming for? If you've got more to spend after you've finished the head I'd suggest working on the feet a little more, get a bit more detail into them... unless she's going to be wearing boots.

can you post a wireframe view. Might help people offer you more constructive crit. :)

They'll always look a little static until you rig the character and pose it, but I think what they are lacking is a bit of definition. The finger tips should taper slightly toward the end and you could bring the knuckles out. Have a look at your own hand and you'll notice that the knuckles protrude slightly. Each finger is also a slighty different size than the other.

Hands are something I always find more difficult to model. They always seem to look a little more convincing if they have a touch of irregularity about them... nothing too crazy mind you, the irregularities in a normal human hand are only subtle.

hey!!:wavey:

looking great so far. ( i love vampires)
the hands do look strange tho.
i think the palms need to protrude more, they look too flat.
i think hands are always gonns look a little weird in that pose tho coz no one stands with their hands outstretched.

apart from that it's looking good.

would i be mistaken in thinking that you used the joan of arc reference pics for the body?

keep up the good work

cheers!!

No you're not mistaken! lol. It's in fact the only online base nude that I found that turned out right for me, so I used it severally.

I updated the render in my first post, do the hands look better now? I added knuckles slighty, played a bit with the top of the hand and curved the fingers in a more natural way.

I'd try too bringing the breasts up more, giving her a little cleavage and not so much flat chest are, then defining the rib cage area more, or widening the waist if you don't want her overly skiny?... As for the hands, if you want to give a CU of the wire, may be able to help more, top of the hands are still looking a little akward..

uhm we can't see the top of the hands on the updated renter, only the sides O.o

If you're looking at the top/bottom hand render that one is outdated. I'll post a wire of the hands soon.

Rib cage = noted

As for the skinnyness, she's undead, so it's a must ;)

and for the cleavage, well the sort of bra she is wearing doesnt offer much support as it covers the upper part of the breasts and leaves a hole underneath (as you can see on the lower pic), and she already has more than any average human being, so imo they are fine. I'm not trying to create a super sexy laracroft clone character, just a vampire ;)

Still can't see the hands very well from the updated render, but they look a little more "relaxed". If you're going for an evil effect I'd try to sharpen the fingers a bit... make them a little rakey. Mind you, thats only a suggestion. It may not be the look that your going for.

ok well here's a hand wireframe, so you can critique the hell out of em, don't be shy ;)

http://www.wc3campaigns.com/koten/images/misc/handwire.jpg

gonna add more loops for the fingers to bend properly when animated, but for now that's that.

I made the breasts much rounder, they look much better now imo. Any tips on defining rib cage, like, where to do cuts, etc? if someone could show me using my old wireframe pic it would be very much appreciated.

The hands could use a lot of optimizing... which is why I usually work in tri's because its easier to get a nicely shaped hand or whatever with fewer polies... your hands look like there are way too many. Besides the poly issue, the fingers should not be so straight... in a natural pose, the hand is slightly curved. The thumb should be rotated ever so slightly back toward the palm, so that its not completely perpindicular to the side of the hand and so that its not on a flat plane with the back of the hand. But what am I saying? You have the best reference material right under your nose.. just check out your own hand in a relaxed pose and you'll see what I mean. :) Nice job on the rest of her, but for heavens sake make her a head! :)

I didn't work on her much lately but here's a small update. Still working on the head.

I expect on using her as my main showpiece for my portfolio to get in this 3d college. So critic the shit out of her if you can. :buttrock:

Correct me if I'm wrong but is the basic mesh created using the joan of arc tutorial for reference?

If it is try and change it a bit, it looks a bit too similar.

If it isn't then I'll go crawl into a small hole and be quiet. [:)]

I did use the joan base nudes. However the model's proportions have changed severally since the beggining of the mesh, so the only thing that makes it look so much like joan must be the pose.

personally, i think the hands are entirely too big for those arms, other than that, the only thing that bothers me is the abdominal region appears to be an elliptical shape. try shaping it out a little more. everything else looks pretty good, and a great texture would make her look quite spiffy.

side note; i noticed the character has features that greatly resemble that of the anime drawing style; large eyes, small nose and mouth, and overall shape of the body. I only recently realized the error of my ways when using anime as source art for a character that was intended to be realistic. If you're going for that look, then by all means go for it, but adding good looking detail wouldn't look right. My reasoning for this is that the anime artists (and this is my personal opinon, not to offend anyone who is an anime fan) seem to have as little possible shading detail in them as the artist can get away with.

My most recent exposure to this would be Breath of Fire: Dragon quarter for the PS2. It is a cell-shaded game, and the characters are modeled by the style the 4 predecessing games have displayed art as; what would be considered 'anime' by most. The game has an extremely cartoony and unrealistic feel to it because of the detail shading on the face of the characters. (not taking anything away from the game, i do enjoy it in a lot of ways)

well thanks for reading my ranting, i just kinda hoped i could prevent others from making the same frustrating mistake it took me a bit too long to figure out. peace.
