View Full Version : Maya 2008 normal maps with mia_material_x

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to apply a normal map image to an mia_material_x mental ray node to no avail. I'm using the regular maya procedural method and changing the bump2d node to use "tangent space normals" (the image is a tangent space normal map generated in photoshop via nvidia's normal map plugin).

When I render I don't see any results. If I switch the bump2d node to use as bump it works with the normal map image (though the result isn't good since it's a normal map not a bump/height map image).

Can anyone straighten this out? I'm not sure I'm using the correct workflow for Maya 2008 specifically...I hear this works in 2009 just fine...is there any other way to do this?
