Hello fellow animators!

I am Jeremy Palka, and I'm finally getting myself involved in the CG Society community. I graduated from Full Sail University in May with my Bachelor in Computer Animation. My area of expertise is in character animation. I've been fascinated with animation since I was a kid, and it inspired my artistic style throughout the years.

I would like to share my demo reel (http://www.palkamation.com/demo.html) with everyone here. It is 1:23 minutes long and about 12Mb in file size. All you should need to view my animations is the latest Quicktime player. There are four assets in total: two actions, one quadruped, and one lip sync. I used the MooM rig for the boulder action, a robotic cat rig for the quadruped, the Max and Basic Guy rigs for the lip sync, and a knight rig for the obstacle course action. There is a full breakdown page included with the reel.

I am open to any and all critiques involving my reel, as well as any other assets you may have come across on my site, including the site itself. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer!

nice job. i like the first anim allot. pretty smooth and the poses are nice.

overall i would say push it more. youre going for a cartoony style, but its kinda riding the middle. i think it should be more over the top. make it snappier, with more moving holds. Full Sail fails its students in this area. they dont focus students on an animation style, and make you push that style to the max.

one example could be the cat. when he gets scared, his pose in the air looks more like hes angry. he should go from curious, to surprised, then quickly into scared. and really sell the scared expression, since its the gag of the shot.

hope im not coming off harsh. youve got good basics.

best of luck

Thanks for the feedback, Abazaba! You didn't come off harsh at all, so no worries there. It's interesting though, because my instructors during finals actually did push me to push the animations more. I was afraid of coming off as too toony and wanted to make sure the fundamentals showed more than the gags. You are right though, as were my instructors. If I'm going to make a cartoony reel, I should push it more in that direction.

I will keep that in mind while creating my next reels. One will be completely toony, and the other will be more realistic. That way I'll show I can do both.

Thanks again!
