I am working on an iPhone game, and i was told that the best way to go about texturing some of the stuff would be to make tileable textures. But the question I have is how to go about doing this, i need 64x64 textures, but when I try to make some, i can add to much detail in the texture because its soo small and I have to tile it many times so it just looks like crap. Also how do you make it where you have diffrent tiles on the same area to break it up so it doesnt all look the same? do you have to lay the uvw out a certain way or do u just use a uvw map. Also should i break up the mesh (the parts that will be diffrent textures) or just leave it one mesh?
I've found a couple of tutorials but they where not much help, so I was going to see what yall had to say about this. And the sooner the better this is really starting to frustrate me. (this is the first iphone game I've ever worked on)
so to recap
1. how do I go about tiling the textures?
2. how to make diffrent tiles/decals, in the same area/polygon?
3. do you have to make the uv's a certain way or use uvw map?
4. should i break up the mesh (the parts that will be diffrent textures) or just leave it one mesh?
Specifications
1. using 3ds max 2009, and photoshop CS4
2. textures need to be 64x64
3. for an iPhone game
here is an images of the buildings, the images on the left are closer to what it will look like in the game, and the textures that are on there right now are just total uniqe textures, at 512x512 and 256x256, I need to tile them so when i get up close they will not be blurry.
