Hi there!

Recently I'm experiencing a bit annoying MAX crash, I've never ever had before.
The chrash is like follows: Sometimes, (or almost whenever) I try to edit something in "editable poly", mostly when I try to snap vertices with the snap tool. (Snap them together), or just try to move them around, the system halts for a second, but just a second, then a blue screen appears, and the system shuts down in that instance.

The shutdown is like I've had cut the power cord...

I'm using Windows XP, with the 1st Service Pack installed.
Hardver configuration:
Intel P4 2GHz @ 2,6GHz processor, with a reliable ABIT motherboard, and with almost brand new Philips DDR 333 RAM (1GB) the whole machine is just two weeks old.
I've had the same config before, it was replaced after a lightning struck.
I had no new plugin, or program installed recently,...
So I really don't know what could be the damn problem, but this is killing my patience. It's a bit hard to model, while in every 10 minutes you're forced to have a quick reboot.... :D

So, if anyone of you have ever experienced this problem, please tell me, at least I'll know I'm not alone...

Of course, I'm looking for the solution. :)

Check the video card drivers and install a motherboard monitor.

A full system crash like that (unless it's your video configuration)usually isn't Max, but some system weakness or problem Max is triggering because Max is a resource hog.

Try running in software driver mode to see if that can narrow it down to the video drivers.

Otherwise I would be strongly suspicious of a voltage or heat problem on your motherboard or a ram problem or a bad AGP configuration.

So, try to figure out what the temps on your cpu and video card are while running max by installing a motherboard monitor. Test your ram (Mushkin has a utility on their website) and check your mobo and videocard manufacturer for bios updates and settings for your AGP.

Also, since your system or most of your system is relatively new, there is probably some weakness in it. If a system has a weakness it is very typical that you will see it occur in the first few weeks of ownership. Now you just got to narrow it down and replace what needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yep, I was wondering about voltage problems. I think I need to fine tune the whole system again. It's only sad because I had a perfetly configured system weeks ago, and now... But heck, some tuning practice can't do any harm.

So, where did I put that screwdriver....
