Hi everyone, I have created a script for Maya 2010 to enable the Progressive Rendering available in Mental Ray 3.7.53.

You can read more on it on my new blog
http://kobayashystips.blogspot.com/

And get more details on the version 1.1 on this post
http://kobayashystips.blogspot.com/2009/08/progressive-rendering-script-update.html

I though I would share this script with the members of this forum.

I hope you guys like it.

Does progressive rendering give better antialising?

not really, progressive rendering is not aimed at rendering a final image.

You need to see it more like a upgraded IPR letting you tweek your lights, materials, etc faster
because you get a low res result faster than with regular IPR or a preview render.

Plus as oppose to regular IPR or render, you would render in low wuality for tweeking ..then set the quality higher and do a preview render to see a final result...

With progressive rendering you don't have to tweek render settings that much... the first 2 or 3 passes are always low quality...if you want to see a high quality result...you just let it run a few pass.

Hope this makes sense

So Is it pretty much like how modo does the preview rendering?

Can someone upload the updated ver. 1.1 script here? The link in the original post seems not working due to the major overhaul of highend3d.com.

Thanks.

In maya x64 the renderer goes back to the default rendering process if Final Gather is checked under Secondary effects of the Rendering Features Render Settings Panel. and also if GI is checked things act up....
What is the ideal scenario this is good for, as some scenes simply render quicker with regular ipr? Would be cool if I could navigate my scene in the ipr window... may take some tom foolery but its totally possible, even if its just trickying the curser position on my screen lol. But really is this possible?
And is there a way to get IPR to utilize my network processors?
