Hi all,

Most of the animation work I have for my video game animation demo tape is either animation which was done for a ps3 type game (which has lots of detail) and animation done for a nintendo ds type game(which is cartoony).

Because the models done for the ds game are much more simple I don't think the animation looks as impressive, so I'm wondering if I should show all the ps3 animation clips first and then have a screen come on saying "ds animation" then show the ds animation clips?

Or should I have all the animations clips from the different games interspersed with each other to make the demo tape more interesting?

On a similar theme, each character I've animated usually has more than one clip. Should I show animation clips of the same character one after the other, or should I intersperse them throught the demo tape...again to try and make things more interesting?

Thanks for advice.

Generally you only want to showcase the very best of your work, the stuff you are most proud of. It's better to have a short kick-arse reel, and leave people wanting to see more than a long one with average pieces that drag the rest of your work down. I'd suggest putting the very best animation first and also make sure you finish with a great piece. Your animations skills should shine through no matter what the character looks like.

Good luck, and show us your reel when you're done!;)

Don't worry about showing "a little" if you can make your case well in what you do show. The folks you're presenting to "know the business." Show a handful of really well-done clips and they'll understand it intuitively.

Thanks for the advice, here's my old reel (if you go to the page and then right click on the demo link to download it, that should work)

I've updated it since then and added new cartoony stuff and cut out loads of old stuff too. Looking at this reel now it goes on way too long and gets pretty boring i think.

I'll try and put my new reel up at some point.
