I know that you can't really scale bones or dummies, but is there a way to get around it?

I have a character mesh of a monkey, and I want a baby monkey version, same model only smaller. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I thought of a couple of options. One is to apply an X-Form to the mesh and shrink it that way, though I haven't quite figured out how that would work.

The other more viable way is to do the animation on the large scale version, clone an INSTANCE of the mesh, and shrink the clone. I assume that the instanced mesh still deforms without a second set of bones.

Anyone have any valuable advice?:bounce:

if i want to rescale a rigged bones body, i doubleclick my centre of mass (i use a dummy with axes for that) and all bones will be selected (that's the advantage of a good hierarchy).

just rescale the COM and the mesh follows because it's linked thanks to skin mod.

so do NOT select your mesh for rescale or you'll see that the mesh leaves the bones

ps: in your selection, don't forget to include your bone controllers like IKchains and whatever splines or shapes you use to control them.

in the cs forum down at deescreeeeet site they have a nice small faq for this stuff.
one of the advice there can help you 2 if your into bonning.
just scale the enviroment and leave the charater as it is.
smart and simple.

But there are going to be different sized monkeys in the same scene. PIXAR makes an interesting point, the thing is I wasn't going to scale the mesh with the bones in it, I was going to clone the mesh as an instance of the original. What I want to know is that if I delete the orignal will the mesh deformations on the instanced copy be retained.

It's like when you clone a mesh that has bones in it (without cloning the bones) then the deformation is carried onto the instanced copy even though it has no bones in it. So I was thinking of shrinking the instanced copy.
