hi all,

silly question...
is it possible to orientate the y-axis in the top view to the right?
in the default settings the y-axis points up in the top view.
this is very confusing to me, especially when i am modelling
in combination with a side view.
so my question is, would it be possible to make the y axis point
to the right as it does in the side views?
many thanks

bests,

lukaz

I don't think it's possible. When in the top view, you can manually rotate it with [NumPad6] ... but if you ever change the view, you'll have to do that again.

Another option is to place and rotate a camera and use that instead of the top view (then just get into the habit of using [NumPad0] instead of [NumPad7] to get that view).

hi,

thanks for replying!
i suppose i could do that, but when ever i change the top view to user view, the background reference image disapears.
another disadvantage of the y-axis pointin up in top view is the ref image becomes to small
when using a four view (when modeling a car f.i.)
any way, i can work with this, but if any body has an answer to my initial question
i would be delighted to hear.
have a nice weekend all!

best regards,

I don't understand how people is able to model using the viewport reference images.

I use planes with images and then I scale and rotate and move the planes where I want.

yeah, even though textured planes work in blender, it can be rather problematic.

this has been discussed alot, btw. so I won't bother explaining it,
besides you can always trie this out your self to get an understanding of the issue.

yeah, i ve tried the texured planes bfore. in blender i prefer
to use the background images to work with.
the only thing about this is that in top view t y-axis points up, which means
that if you scale an object (along the y-axis) in side view the distortion goes
vertical in top view, wich is a little od to me. also when modeling a car or so,
it leves alot of unused space in a for view f.i.
anyway its kind of a detail but still... if anyone has an answer out there,
please do not hesitate to let me knoow ;-)

thanks for replying!
