DESCRIPTION: The idea was originaly that gladiator battles has been brought back in 50 years from now, and instead of swords and shields, it's racing with weapons.. It's like the wipeout game but on wheels..
All cars comes with chopper rotors, boosters, and missiles. but to use it they must first collect it on the track, like wipeout or deathrace. But I didn't have time to do that part. I only just got time to do the action part :)
I did about 85% of the project. Ernst did the vehicle modeling and rigging. Niks did the sound effects and music. And I did the rest, animation, effects, lighting and rendering, and cut it all together in the end.

DESCRIPTION: I decided to try and depart from what I thought a lot of others would do, so I went with a retro steampunk style monowheel racer. I originally intended on crating multiple racers, but it was too ambitious. So I stayed with one racer and created a 'racing' story around it. Created in 3dsmax, rendered with Vray, and composited in After Effects. I had alot of fun, and learned a lot. There's still some minor issues I would like to have fixed, namely compositing with the fx passes, but it was 'get it out the door' today or it wasn't getting done.

I didn't end up creating the animation I had playing in my mind but the important thing for me for this project was just being part of it. I wanted to be part of the process and in just a couple of weeks I did learn a few things. I would have liked to have a few more cars come around the corner and one crash at the end but too many things going on. Thanks for viewing. Hope to be part of the next Challenge.

DESCRIPTION: The Terrible Incident of 2010 left earth a barren, sad planet. None of the surivors were left without mutation, and most had mutated to no longer have arms, legs, or torsos. Mankind would, of course, eventually adapt, and evolve into a naturally greener, more caring species - the Tartlefleck, but this process would take many thousands of years.

In the meantime, most sports floundered and eventually died out in this new, nearly limbless world - but motor racing survived, and united the global population. Those who succeeded would be hailed as heroes the world over, and those who failed would be eaten by the hungry masses. Of those who succeeded, there was one man who outshone them all - the barely mutated Lord Henry Hamilton.

In this short animation, we see Hamilton making a crucially timed pit stop, which was the deciding factor in his narrow victory in the 2059 Global Grand Prix.

The production of this piece was done by Chris Bull, Richard Jones, and Tim Ash, with Alison Farmer chipping in with some texture work.
All concept art was by Phil Chin, and the sound effects were done by Peter Nixon. The animation was rendered at Render Nation.

DESCRIPTION:
G Formula. The Idea I had originally was of a story about a futuristic race. The winner gets a chance to go back in time and undo one mistake. Most choose to make themselves rich. However, our rider deeply regrets drink driving and accidental killing a child in the process, she realises the only way she can ease her conscience is to go back and sacrifice herself to save the child. Of course you don't see any of this in the animation though.

Once again there is so much more I would love to do to improve this animation. However I have no time, I am glad I have finished another challenge and I have competed against such pros. A big Shout out to J type who did the music once again. Google him

I liked all the entries.

@Load McGoat - I think this is the best VFX entry. Creative design, good WIP thread and is what I think VFX shots are all about. Would have been better if we saw them racing.

@Darknon - Best animation and camera work. Tell it was done by an animator. Best over all entry and my vote goes here. I think to much focus on story and animation then visual effects, but your an animator so I understand. Story is in your blood.

@fuhshizzle - Best style and feel. Very creative approach. Best post editing.

@AliasLupe - Nice car design. Needed to resolve those aliasing issues with the road texture maps.

@RayRay - Turned out very well, next vfx.

@ParamountCell - Love the Tron feel! You can't go wrong with Tron right now. Would have liked to seen a better establishing shot.
