This is just a render test I made using RAY from Highend 3D. Let me know your comments please.

The is one arealight with a depth map applied. I can make better tests but this one was quick. The render data is on the image.

33 minutes is way too long.
what do u mean by RAY? is this raydiffuse?
maybe u can try other plugins like GI_JOE, prerenderpyramid, Sky, RealFakeGI or place lights manually.
I've got complex models render at 2k image. with 6k texture and it renders only at 10 minutes.

the setups that i've use is just dome lights, sun lights, env lights.
there is about 40 lights in the scene.
if i turn the 6 k texture in to 2.5k pixels. it renders in less than 2 minutes.

here is a GI fake i just did using Maya only....

this GI setup is done via GI_Joe (www.pixho.com - my new best friend)... only 32 lights in this scene!

rendered at 1024x768 in 47seconds. 2x1GhzPIII, 768Ram

Thanks for the responses, what actually blows me away are the manual light setups that use no gi at all. I'd like to learn to setup lights in maya better that's for sure.

This is just a quick fix for when I don't want to spend a long time tweaking anything. :p
