View Full Version : Character: Mark - Blink182
Encore 08-05-2003, 02:43 AM Well, this is my first post here. :wavey: I decided to show some of my recent portraits; actually I've been doing portraits of celebs for like more than a year now. This was made with Painter Classic and Photoshop, and a Wacom Tablet, using a pic on the cd booklet as the reference. I love how it turned out, specially because it's kinda hard to achieve this kind of expressions on portraits.... The quality of the hair is also... above the average of my portfolio. :D

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. :)

thanks for the replies!
as for qur, yeah man, that's what I mean: I always get a bit stuck when drawing hair (specially spikey, male haircuts)... In this image I think I got a little better, comparing to older works. But I still need to practice a lot...

So tell me, did you just use the photo as a reference, or did you actually pain OVER the scanned photo to paint this?
I can never quite figure these posts out.

Agreenster: what would be the use of buying all sorts of painting software and a tablet if it was only to paint over photographs? All of my portraits are real paintings, just as real as any traditional drawing. That's why they look more expressionist than hyper-realist. If you still have any doubt, I've published a tutorial (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/2580832) on the creation of this image back in DeviantART.
Mixtus: I never DID see him with a lip ring. Maybe you're mixing up the band members? :surprised Tom has a lip ring.
Again, people, thanks for the comments!

hahah your right that is the other guy. I did not know their names. I feel a bit more educated on blink 182 now. I thought that was the lead singer in the wacom drawing. My bad.

Nice painting man!
He really looks alive!
How did you use the reference photo?
Did you have it in a separate layer, painting over it?
Or did you have it on the side, just looking at it?
