Over the past week I was working on a couple of images for a friend's book that she will be pitching to publishers. The idea within the book is to include 9 images that the killer constructs after his murders.

The two images below represent what these included photos might look like.

Since this was a concept piece to get the idea across, I selected images from my stock photo library for use in the comps. I was on a very tight deadline. The work below represents about 30 hours of work in 3 days time, so I had to go the comp route since I couldn't set things up properly in a studio environment in that time.

I did a lot of post work on the images to get the final look I was going after. It is my hope that if the book idea sells to a publisher, and that the images will sell as well, and we'll be able to finish off all 9 images with original source material.

Anyway, just wanted to give you guys a little background on it. I'd love to hear your feedback on the images.

Oh, 1 more important point...the final images would exist in a 3x3 grid to produce the 9 images...and doing so would reveal a secret that is addressed in the actual novel.

Well...here it is:

I think it looks great to illustrate the dark/murder kind of story. Looking at it, almost makes me think of a movie generic. Some parts of the picture are actually pretty creepy... :)

thanks for the comments.

just to reiterate, the image you see here is really a proof of concept piece to help sell the idea...if things go well, we'll be doing 9 of these which would be included with the novel. So wish us luck.

xtrm3d: please email me your ICQ#...i switched computers and lost a lot of info.

cheers!

Wow, now I really like this a lot! Really the type of stuff I'm into :D
I particularly like the second image - it's totally grotesque, awesome! That owl is such a cool addition to the image, it brings a totally different dynamic, as opposed to the grisly imagery. I also really like the two hands in the bottom left corner of the first image - they look nervous.

Great pics, I really love them

Very nice! Reminds me of a cross between Silent Hill/Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Seven/Unforgiven (by Metallica Music video).....

the style is great, the owl adds a nice touch.. as does the devil head. My eye goes right to the top right of the second image... somewhat detracting from everything else but very nice.

Strange gothic feel to it.

Congrats! I'd like to see the rest.

Thanks for the kind replies everyone.

I should know more in the next couple of months about whether or not the pitch was a success. I'll keep everyone informed as best as I can. Be sure to check out my site in the coming months since I will more than likely update it first before posting.

Cheers!

Wow!

Awesome work!

It seems to be heavily influenced by Dave McKean, and J.K Potter.

I'd love to see the 9 pieces you actually use for the film.

Overall very nice images.

The only thing, you could take a bit more care is the composition. esp. the right one looks a bit crowded and doesn't really have a good "hot spot".

What about using some custom photoshop brushes? They're very easy to use and add a lot of grunge to it. (Look at my website for "inspiration" )

And check out Dave McKean & www.alessandrobavari.com 's stuff.. but I guess you already now those.
