View Full Version : character: robotic mc
godeus25 08-05-2003, 01:14 AM Hi all,
I'm just learning to model and this is one of my first projects. I want to use it in scenes as a musician, ie pose it with drums, a guitar, with a microphone, etc.. i want it to look very mechanical, but also have enough human qualities that you can imagine it being a performer of exciting music.

let me know what you think! :D

I'd recomend that you go over your model and figure out exactly what each piece would be made of. Robots could incorperate plastics, metals, carbon fibre materials, and so on.
Go and look through some magazines to see what these materials are generally shaped like, and see if you can make you model appear to be made of these materials.
You'll need to add details...

yeah it doesn't seem like he could actually move. You should get some references and see how real mechanics are applied. Just stick with it.

Remined me of a wood toy robot.

Here's an update. Most of my progress is in the legs. It still lacks all sorts of details, especially hands. Also some proportions are nutty. I'm much more used to a looser style of image creation, so this idea of having to account for every detail of the model is a bit new to me. A lot of the bits ive got here are space holders til i can work them out. Thanks for the tips!

i'm getting close to having to have this finished up. this is going to be a cd cover printed on the cheap by a local band, so i'm going with the black and white cel rendering. besides the practical traits, this method looks pretty good with this model i think and hides some of my modeling short comings ;) still some kinks to work out . . .

I think you should add a joint to the torso. It looks very simple compared to the arms and legs. Apart from that, it's coming along nicely. The cel render is looking good.

some more details added into the joints and a new waist joint added (good idea urgaffel). more cirts more crits!

In my opinion the first one looked more mechanical and robotic, and also funny, in the last one the legs are too human and the torso too round...

Nice Stuff, but u should really use more reference, theres great stuff out there with pictures of mechanical devices and machines and even other robots, if ur going to build a robot, make sure on a technical level, its equal or superior to anything thats allready been modeled out there.
