View Full Version : MAYA DiSPLAY Problems
TheShaddix 08-05-2003, 12:22 AM hi guys.
i have an urgent question for anyone who knows how to answer it.
When i move an isoparm on a surface, it leaves a long red trail after itself. I have no idea why it does that, but it happens everytime i move isoparms. I have the same problem with a sculpt tool, which leaves a trail as well.
Here is the image of it:

Please people, if anyone had that problem before and somehow fixed it, lemme know.
Thanks.

If you haven't done so in a while you might think about updating video drivers.

It's a problem with ATI cards in general. ATI consumer cards arn't on Maya's qualified hardware list, so they will have some problems.
So you'll just have to live with it or buy a real workstation card.

dude if ur saying that the problem is in my video card, then which one do u think will solve the problem?
And even when i had radeon 8500 128 megs maya ran perfect, no glitch at all, but with the new one it has that red trail.
Maybe there is another way to solve the problem?

NVidia cards don't have this problem, so maybe you should get one of those. I've never seen a fix for the ATI problem. It seems to be a problem with all the R300 core cards.

Keep in mind that the consumer level nVidia cards have issues of their own. :D

turn off anti-aliasing. this problem has been solved before many a time.

Yep, Turn off antialias... and you should check your VGA OpenGL settings / options (monitor properties)
Try to switch Vertical Sync, Buffer-Flipping mode
Hope that helps :)

Thats not true...I had the same problem with my nVidia card. The best way to solve this problem, is to UNINSTALL first your video drivers, then REINSTALL a fresh copy of the latest drivers. The problem is gone now, so you just need to make sure you delete every last bit of the old drivers out of there. :wip:

guys, i tried everything u said. I reinstalled the old drivers and replaced them with new ones, even though i had the new ones before; My antialising settins are set at application preference mode so there is no way of turning it off in both direct and opengl.
And i even tried switching fast write function to off, doesnt help either.
If anyone have a better explanation of what needs to be done please reply to this thread cuz im definately not gonna buy nvidia card just cuz maya gives me trouble. ATI RADEON, not stable on maya? bullshit, i had radeon 8500 before, worked very good.

you're solved your own problem, use the 8500 instead. The 9600 and the 8500 uses different hardware.
Others have already told you that your main problem was due to the consumer level card. Get the FIREGL or the Quadros. Thats what they're made for. You could try the software hack on Guru3d.com to turn your 9600 to a FireGL. You get what you paid for.

man, i would definately use my old radeon but, i bought a new motherboard and processor, athlon xp. I had to buy any video card due to 8X AGP thing. Radeon 8500 doesnt support 8X AGP, but 9600 does. It even supports directx 9. If i had a choice i would use my old video card, that way i would save 200 buks and headache. But thats guys, ill try that FIREGL thing, i think thats my only way to solve the problem. I can exchange my new video card on any other, but then what? nvidia does have glitches as well doesnt it? U just have to find a solution to all the hardware problems thatsall.
ATI is a good company, maya runs amazing on ATI, but the red trails.

HMM, what if i get nvidia Geforce FX 5200 or 5600? would either of them solve the problem??
Cuz i have to exchange my ATI on Nvidia, i dont think they got quadros in their store. Will those two resolve the problem????????????

if you're really serious about doing 3D work, get a Nvidia quadro or ATI FireGL instead of those Game cards. Geforce FX would not solve your problem at all. Its worth the money, and you can still play games. For $200 you could probably get a lowend Quadro or FireGL.
Here is the software hack to turn your Radeon into a FireGL.
