I don;t quite understand how to work with 3dsmax curves stuff...I mean for example color curves or falloff...a mean the thing on the pic below can someone explain me how does it work? In help there's nothing about it. When moving and adding points what effect do I get?

Well, every curve edittor is a simple bezier curve, you can edit. This is why it is a curve edittor. :D
The curve represents something in two dimensions. This is why a curve is used. For example the X dimension represents the distance, the Y represents the strength, or opacity like in a falloff map, or by the intensity of the glow post effect.
Take a look at the glow effect's curve:
The X in this case represents the distance from the center of the effect, and the Y (the hight of the curve at the given X value) sets the strength of the effect.

Another good axample to curves, is the tarck view, where the X usually represents the time, and the Y some numerical value. This way, by representing values with curves, you can see some more relations, than looking at just a spinner. Or several spinners.

The ability to add more points is because sometimes you'll need to to fine tune the curve, and add some adittional detail.
Again back to the track view, the points represents the animation keys...

The color curves available from output settings are somewhat different. But some experimentation with the curves can give some knoviledge about the affect. Mainly it's hard to understand at first glance, because the X, and Y dimensions are both related to color dimensions. A bit hard to imagine. But there is the gardient under the curve edittor, so you can see the results. Try experimenting first with the grayscale control. The RGB works the same way, but with all the 3 color values.

But I don't think I know more about curves. Or different types of them.
