View Full Version : color slot linked with transparency
Tarscher 08-04-2003, 06:49 PM Hi all,
When aplying a texture to my color slot (in the material editor) the texture is also aplied to the transparency slot. When I change it in transparency the color also changes. It seem like these 2 material attributes are linked. I tried different materials but the all have this. Someone can help me out please
kind regards

Hi!
What's happening is that the image you're using has an Alpha channel (a built in transparency channel, in case you didn't know) and so Maya automatically assumes that you want to use that Alpha channel. So it connects the image to Trasnparency as well.
So to fix it:
1. Open up the Hypershade,
2. Middle-mouse-drag your shader down into the bottom section,
3. Right click on it and choose Graph Network, which will show you all the connections.
There'll be two arrows (connections) going from your file texture node to the shader node. Moving your mouse over them will tell you what they're connecting.
4. Find the one that goes from the file texture into the transparency of your shader, click on it to select it then just press delete!
Now the transparency is no longer connected, but the colour still is.
