I downloaded the HDRI crosses from Paul Debevec's website, but I can't figure out how to make them useful for mapping. I own a Mac so I can only use the program 'Photosphere' to see HDRIs...you really can't edit them much though.
How do I use these images for mapping to an environment cube or poly cube (Maya)?
Here is an example of what I am talking about..

depending on what the hdri plugins are like for maya, you might be able to just tell it that its a cross hdri, and it would work it out for itself, i know there is that option in Vray for 3dsmax. Otherwise you will need to manually map that texture to a cube, make sure that all 6 sides of the cube line up with the correct part of the hdri.

Or if you know someone with a pc you could get them to convert them to a panorama hdri using HDRIshop.

<EDIT>
Here is a link to a page where you can download a hdri that is already in panorama.

All you need to do is map it to a sphere using spherical mapping.
