View Full Version : Inverting a portion of an image
philnolan3d 08-16-2009, 11:18 PM I have this great image I want to use as a mask in 3D Coat, but the problem is that a portion of it is dark and would be perfect for the mask, but another portion is lighter which would also work, as I could just invert it, but I need the whole image to be one or the other. Any ideas how to do that? I'm working in Photoshop CS4 Extended. I'm attaching a small version of the image so you can see what I mean.

A careful selection should let you invert part of it, but here's a differnt thought:
Run a high pass filter on it, then take the resulting scratch-detail-on-gray image, darken it, and increase contrast.
You should end up with light scratches on a dark, even base

Ok. Never mind. I see you got the same answer in your cross-posted version of this same thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=6049640).

Yes sorry I posted that thread, then immediately thought it would make more sense to post it here instead. Seems I got more responses there after all. Thanks anyway.
Anyone who cross posts should be banned.
