View Full Version : What's your favorite foot setup?

I've used all sorts of foot setups and find they all have pluses and minuses. I'm curious which foot setups people use, what features they like, and if your setup does anything out of the ordinary that the common foot setups don't.

If you can, I think this would be a good place to share those techniques or at least post a link to a tutorial that most matches what you use.

The reason I ask is that I'm creating some automation scripts to set up feet and would like to make it flexible enough for a variety of setups and techniques -- that way people can quickly create and try out different foot setups to determine which is best for their character.

Thanks,

I either use IK or FK, depending on what I'm doing. While I like the control IK gives you with sticky IKs, FK is great for small movements where no major rigging is needed. The reverse foot rig is a great way to go as well.

Here's a tutorial I wrote about using the REVERSE FOOT rig. Check it out.

Happy riggin'! :D

Good start, Dave. Thanks!

When you use FK, do you have separate FK handles or are you controlling the FK with custom attributes added to your FK controllers?

I have some questions. Generally I always use the reverse foot setup... never had any real issues with it. sooo.....

What are the disadvantages of the reverse foot setup?

And can those disadvantages be overcome by using IK/FK switching?

Thanks :D

ACFred: I use straight-up joint manipulation. Click on the joint, move it, set a key. WOOOOO!

Here's an example of an FK animation I did as a test.
