Hi guys,

Sorry if this has already been post couldn't find it...:(
I'm having problem copying keyframe in the timeline when I do it in MAya 5 it offset the keyframes that follow...
Humm don't know if it's clear but exemple :if I have 2 keyfrme and I copy the fisrt one in the middle of the two it will offset the second one..but that only do in the timeline if I do it in the graph everything's fine !!!..

I've never had that before MAYA 5 anybody noticed that too.
Is it an option somewhere ?

thanks for any help it's really bothering me .
BtW I used the download version of Maya5 just in case it makes a difference.

cheers and many thanks

there is a work around but it can possibly be a pain if you need to copy and paste multiple sets of keys often enough:

for a single key: while holding down Shift, click once where you want paste the keyframe in the timeline. this will create a red selection area on the single frame, right click and paste. this prevents the other keys from being shifted.

for multiple keys: shift and Left click a selection area that is the same length as the number of keys that you copied from (ie 3 keys over 12 frames = a selection area 12 frames wide). once that's set all you need to do is right click and paste.

hope that helps

Just use the Edit>Keys>Paste Keys command with Merge enabled instead of insert. I put in on the shelf because I use it so frequently. I have no idea why the paste command in the timeline doesn't have an option box.

No, thatīs the problem. Even with Merge selected in Maya 5, the existing keys are pushed ahead in time (by one frame...watsupwidat?!?). I think this is a bug.

Hmm, no I don't think its a bug, its a decision made by the product developer I believe. In editing usually it's called ripple edit. When you insert a clip in a middle of a cut all subsequent clip will be push back to create the room.

Same case when you delete a clip, all subsequent clip will be pull forward to fill the gap.

But they also have option to turn off ripple edit, I don't know whether it's available in Maya.

Yes, I understand this, but, as you stated, usually one has the option to turn this off. In Maya 5 I havenīt seen yet how to do this. And, because there is no mention of a "feature" like this in the v5 "Whatīs New" docs, and because this was certainly NOT the way things worked in v4.5, I believe this could be a bug.

I do think it's a bug too ..cause like i said it doesn't push the Keys in the graph editor once you copie..and more it only shift the keys for one frame who need that..anyway I'm not animating right now anymore but i download a mel that correct this behavior don't remenber the name but it's on deaphfall.com

BTW the merge option doesn't help but I think that having an insert command for pasting is pretty handy.

thanks all for answers

cheers

heres the solution to pasting keyframes without inserting an extra frame....

shift select the key....

then go to desired frame for pasting....shift select that frame....then use the RMB for paste....

if you DONT shift select the frame for pasting you will displace all of the subsequent frames
