View Full Version : Mesh Tools
Missing Link 01-14-2002, 11:24 PM how do you all have your mesh tools set up efficantly?
are you using quads?
if your using quads, did you just throw them into the default menu quad?
i couldnt figure out how to assign the shortcut or a right click to the customized quad menu. any help is much appreicated.
and....... do you find that the meshtools lead to max crashing more often? i am also using csPOLYTOOLS
thanx

I have my shift+RMB assigned to a bunch of stuff (Meshtools, cspolytools, toggles, lights, you name it). I also have my shift+alt+RMB set up with everything else so the quads dont get to big :)
My system runs like a rock so I have to say that it doesn't make max crash. It's crashed once since I installed XP. :D

I didn t bothered making a special quad with meshtools only
only placed tools like i wanted they are in the default quad...

for stability didn t saw more crashes...perhaps some CSpolytools functions may cause em...long time i haven t modeled but seems it was em that cause sometimes crash...

I have found that MAX does tend to get unstable when you have lots of non-default macro buttons in the UI. I try to keep things tied to the keyboard whenever possible, and I'm working towards fitting quadmenus into my workflow. I hate toolbars and panels!

Yeah, I hate toolbars too.
Oh yeah, I forgot... I found the multi bevel to be really unstable. But it says that it is buggy in one of the files included. Cant remember if spin edge is too but everything else works like a champ.
Missing link - Schaumburg...that's cool. Just a little while ago I moved from downtown. Above the house of blues. I dont work in the industry yet but all in good time. It's school time :) . I did a ton of graphic design in chicago before coming out though.

I made some small floating toolbars for different sets of meshtools (selection- modification- an viewport-tools)
you can hide them very easy with a simple shortcut.
I myself dont like to rightclick every time to bring the up the quadmenu for a single tool.
and for the tools I use a lot (like edge loop and connect) I made some easy shortcuts.
