View Full Version : A walk in a snow
Hello everyone! This image was created using 3d Studio Max. It was done for a magazine in France. This is my first image that is going to be published and I am very nervous about it.
I will be thankful to every comment and critique. I have a week before submitting the work, so I have time to improve it.
Thank you a lot!

A strange, yet calm and pieceful air fills the image, IMO...
Cool.
Just a few crit: there is something wrong with her eye, I think this is because some tear would be nice around her eyes. And the specular on the eyes could be a bit stronger.
Another place to look for improvement might be the fur around her neck. I think some randomness might help.
The glittering snowflakes, and the *glittering* face looks pretty good, and well composed.

Hi Icy
The Skin texture your using is fantastic, especially around the eyes, but the pores look a little uniform at the moment. On a real person they tend to be bigger around the nose and cheeks, and more refined elsewhere. The ones on her chin stand out particularly at the moment, and she looks like she recently shaved:D.
The end of the nose could do with some more shaping and refining. It looks a little flat, and the outer edge of the nostrils seem slightly too thin.
The eyes look very graphikkky at the moment. The edges of the iris are too defined, theyre softer normally and blend into the white, and the white of the eye is too white. Shes a model, but a little imperfection would really help
Is the Depth of field an after effect? The only reason I ask is when the forground snow goes out of focus, it seems to be blurring the skin texture too
The only other comment is a general one, that the woman and background could do with some tying together. She appears differently lit. Maybe an additional lightsource that is clearly affecting both her and the scene. Some snow on her fur or hat maybe?
Anyway, the fur, hair and skin texture are very well done, and it already works for me as a picture. Good luck with the publishing and keep posting updates :)

Thanks a lot! I will work on the changes this week... will try to change everything I can.

Maybe this is just Fly-****ing (thats directly translated from danish, and means freaking about some small stuff), but The DoF, needs a little tweakin...Its look like its some badly stretched texture instead...I just say this, cause if it goes public, it'll need to be perfect...And it is almost perfect

DoF mean Depth of Field...
the meaning is taking a certain spot of a render and blurring it while rendering in say 3ds max for instance... you can find it under rendering setup go down till you see depth of field..
I think the thing that pops out at me is her lips look a bit big... I look and rellook everytime my eyes went to her lips... either sofen the lipstick she got on or... try and fix her lips a bit... anyway it looks really good....

Hello there,
quite a nice image there although there seems to be problems with the DOF. I also think that there is some sort of proportional problems with her face. MOstly in the bottom of her face (lips/noe/chin). From the angle you picked, her jaw to the left looks odd. I don't think the mouth is big enough. Last thing. That fur line to that jacket is very odd - it's so sharpl/clearly delineated. Did you get paid for the render?
No, I am not getting paid, of course. Well, I guess I have to do it again. That's good that I have a week to spend.
Thank you for your help, everybody. This image really suck :)

If I wanted to see it in black and white, I would have downloaded it and taken out the color in Photoshop... thank you for waisting my time on a dial-up; its time that I will never get back.
It looks really cool tho, Nice work!
T Bomb: the original image that the magazine picked was in black and white... sorry for your time that you will never get back...

Nice work with details of the face; however, it looks odd because the head is turned for a 3/4 view, yet the face looks like it is from the front.
You did this with a 3d program and the face is slid to the side? That seems odd... anyway, just make the direction of the face match the directon that the head is going.
keep up the good work:D

it depends who ur audience r gonna be, the mag is gonna b read by hardcore 3d guys who have ever crticizing eyes or by generral audience, if its the latter then i say the image is pretty good coz i have one motto in life what looks good - is good!, technically i dont wanna comment...
