Lets talk about motion graphics.
If I want to do something with a logo and make it in After effects. Most of the time I've read in the helping materials and tutorials that make the logo in Illustrator.
My question is why so? If the text has to remain still and doesnt have to strech and all, cant we do it in photoshop (in Jpeg format)?
If it is done in photoshop is tehre any special guide lines taht I will have to take care of like resolution etc (72 dpi etc).
I hope I am clear at what I wanna ask.

First off - if you want to keep quality, don't touch jpeg......

If you're using ready-rasterised images, then I'd say use .tga

And sure, if the graphic is going to be static on the screen, and won't grow or shrink, use a rasterised image. But you'll have more flexibility with it if you have a vector image to work with.

Thanks.
Vector images are always good. Seems like I'll have to buy Illustrator sometime.

now if you're just talking about text or something.,., you could type a text path in photoshop, and export that path as a eps or somthing.,.,

it depends on how complex this logo is.,.,

You can save text from Photoshop as pdf file and check include vector data.

I avoid illustrator like the plague :D

Seriously.. I've been making lot's of Motion Graphics, and haven't used illustrator that much (I don't actually know it that well to begin with).
I always import the Photoshop file (PSD) directly into AE.. you can even keep the layers. And for moving, resizing (as long as your not going beyond 100%).. etc. it's perfectly fine.

The only thing you have to keep in mind.. don't make compositions which are bigger than about 2000x3000. Otherwise AE (5.5) will protest (earlier or later).

Depending on your style, illustrator might be the better way to go. But that doesn't mean there's no way around it.

to create logos, I prefer the illustrator!
high resolution pic makes lower speed, and to use illustrator, you don't need to worry about anti-aliasing.
and....by the way. don't you guys use the "path text" or "basic text" in After Effect? you could add many "effects" on them also.
