Hi Folks,

I just upgraded from Maya Unlimited 8.5 to 2009.

I have been using Maya since v2.5.

I have a weird problem with Mental Ray that seems to have appeared between 8.5 and 2009.

In my scene is a simple plane with a colour map and a transparency map. It renders fine in Maya 8.5 in both Maya Software and Mental Ray. In 2009 it renders fine in Maya Software but it ignores the transparency map in a Mental Ray render.

The transparency map is an 8-bit grey scale bmp file.

Can somebody point out what I have to do now that I didn't previously? I bet I missed something obvious.

I found the solution.

Under preferences; rendering check "Use Maya-style alpha" and it starts to render the way it used to previously.

This must have been changed for a reason. Any idea what I'm missin gout on by changing this setting?
