View Full Version : Render Farm: how to use it better?
fernandokts 08-03-2003, 05:40 AM Hi! At first, sorry about my english :)
I'm using 3dsmax 5.1 and Brazil R/S 1.0. And now I have access to a network of 30 PCs (Athlon XP 2000+ 256MB each) in a 100mbps lan. Could someone please tell me how to take great advantages of it, configuring the network with Windows XP and Brazil to render the fastest? Or just installing the program in all machines and distributing the render is enough?
thanks in advance

First things first, i'd probably upgrade to Brazil r/s 1.2. Second, if you were only using brazil on one computer before, chances are you only bought an aritst bundle. To populate your renderfarm you're going to have to purchase a few renderfarm bundles that give you an extra 4 rendernodes each. At that point, you could probably just as easily drop by the splutterfish online chat system to get help in configuring it.

Thanx for the help... but I would apreciate if someone could help me with the hardware stuff... What should I get for the network to have a good rendering?

as long as the computers are networked, thats all that matters, of course you mention they have 256mb of ram, which is way too little.. i personally wouldn't like a farm machine with any less than 1 gig of ram each.. A gigabit network would help in transfering files, but not necessary.. Other than actually networking the machines up and installing 3dsmax+plugins on each, there's not much else to it.
